102 Squadron
"Nos Nobis Futuri" (We are Concerned with the Future)
An Air Force Reserve Squadron, their area of responsibility is from north of Polokwane (Pietersburg) to the Limpopo River. The squadron has been extensively utilised for recce flights on the border between the RSA, Zimbabwe and Botswana. The unit is staffed by volunteer aircrew flying civilian aircraft.
Established as 102 Air Commando on 24 September 1963 at Wonderbom Airport. It then moved to AFB Swartkop and moved again in 1986 when it was relocated to AFB Pietersburg.
With effect from 1st October 1968 control of 102 Commando Squadron passed from the SA Army to the S.A.A.F. The squadron came under total control of Tactical Group. Transferred to Light Aircraft Command in 1970.
Command and control of 102 Squadron was transferred from AFB Pietersburg to AFB Louis Trichardt (later renamed Makhado) with effect from 1 March 1993.
