Air Force Mobile Deployment Wing
The mission of the Air Force Mobile Deployment Wing (AFMDW) is to provide sustainable combat ready, integrated and deployable air support capabilities to the SANDF. In other words, it provides a rapid response team.
The area occupied by the AFMDW was previously known as AFS Snake Valley and is situated opposite the 17 Sqn/SAAF Museum premises on the eastern side of the shared runway.
The official name for the entire base/premises is Air Force Mobile Deployment Wing (AFMDW), incorporating the old AFB Swartkop (17 Squadron, the SAAF Museum), the old Snake Valley on the Eastern side and the old Gym (Valhalla) on the opposite side of the road.
