News reports have stated that a South African Air Force C-47TP TurboDak suffered a landing incident at Mthatha Airport this morning.
The aircraft had landed at the Eastern Cape airport when it left the runway, coming to rest with its wheels dug into the grass.
The report quoted police spokesperson Mzukisi Fatyela as saying sixteen 16 passengers, including doctors, were on board the aircraft. They were visiting former president Nelson Mandela at his home in Qunu outside Mthatha. Fatyela says no one has been injured.
The airforce recently took over management of Mthatha Airport and is overseeing the upgrade of the airport facilities.
