The UK Ministry of Defence is holding a sale. This is a not to be missed chance for the SANDF to renew / replenish / upgrade their arsenals ... ?

Those young C-130Js could/should be worth a discussion at least. The UK seems desperate for some post Brexit alliances/friends/influence and SAAF is desperate for some transporters... we can only hope that somebody of influence realises there is the potential for a win-win.

Certainly not my observation or experience, and I live in England.

Alliances - the UK is the second largest spender within NATO, and the largest in Europe.
Friends - none have gone, in fact friendships have strengthened because we speak with our own voice.
Influence - still the 5th biggest economy globally.

SAAF and C-130 transporters - not sure SA has the budget to even put in a bid. Tough times.

Your points are all valid and "desperate" was an exaggeration. The UK is certainly actively out to form new alliances, make new friends and increase influence. I'm thinking specifically of:

-the current aircraft carrier extended "flying the flag" deployment (with NL and US ships in its strike group) to a multitude of nations
-the many trade deals being sought out
-renewed emphasis on CANZUK & Commonwealth
-increased naval activity/posturing in Black Sea and S. China Sea

And SA has been on that list (Cyril's invite by Boris to G7, Raab visit etc).

So all I'm saying is that there is room for a deal to be made, especially if there aren't lots of suitors for the Hercs and even if the SAAF/Gov.za doesn't have cash.

Your points are noted.

- CSG 21 (Carrier Strike Group 21). The whole purpose of the multi-national maritime deployment is to 'fly the flag' and to show that UNCLOS must be respected and that all signatories must equally abide by it.
- Independence of trade relations, amongst others, and re-affirming the centuries old global Britain are precisely why Brexit came about.
- CANZUK and the Commonwealth are historical realities and well established, over many decades.
- Once again UNCLOS, the right to sail the seas. The Russian Navy sails through the English Channel regularly. Chinese naval vessels have even visited Portsmouth, a major Royal Navy base. No fuss no tantrum.

SAAF and Hercs, I've nothing to add to my previous post.
