Does the Cheetah D not also use the MB Mk10 seat?

I'm not sure if it is the same sub-version as the RAF Hawk seat, but the Ecuadorian Cheetah D seat also malfunctioned.

How many safety pins has the thing got? I recall flying in an Impala, many moons ago, and there were IIRC 6 safety pins that had to be removed to make the seat live. And this was done almost immediately prior to closing the canopy.

I have a list somewhere of the MB seats in use worldwide: The PDF does got through the ejection sequence as well.

Mk-10 for the Hawks: http://www.martin-baker.com/getdoc/65aa ... -2011.aspx

The info of "How It Works" is under the relevant tab and so is the list of variants for the different air forces: http://www.martin-baker.com/products/Ej ... k--10.aspx

Not Pearl Harbour, that event took place in 1942.

Ejection seats only started to make an appearance in the late 50's

Now were really digressing, but I think there was a German jet towards the end of WWII with a rocket-powered escape seat?

(Bit busy to Google)

The first aircraft to be fitted with Ejection seats as standard was during WWII.

The aircraft so fitted was the Heinkel He-219 Uhu (Owl) Nightfighter, must not be confused with the Fw-189 Uhu.
This aircraft had a two seated crew (pilot and Radar Operator) and carried a lethal array of armament.

These ejection seats worked on compressed air and a number of ejections took place in combat and in flying accidents

The sole remaining He-219 is on display in Washington DC

I don't think any of our Mirages used the Mk10 seat.

MB posted details to me of the seats used in SAAF aircraft quite a few moons ago, long before the internet.

According to MB:
Mirage III - Mk ZM4 or Mk ZRM4
Canberra - Mk 2CA
Impala I - Mk ASO6A
Impala II - Mk WY6A-M
Buccaneer - Mk 6MSA

I think the Mirage F1 used the MK-4FIRM4.

Obviously, this was before the days of the Cheetah too!

AFAIK, only the Cheetah D and E used the Mk10L seat, not the C (which had the older JM6)?

The reason of the death of Red 5 Flight Lieutenant Sean Cunningham was due to the ejection seat parachute failed to open. He dies from multiply injures in the hospital. The incident occurs at the morning of 8th November, when the Red Arrows Hawk T1 aircraft taxi to the runaway for a training flight

You could be right Dean - what I posted is on the MK site. ... ... Any possibly that the SAAF had their seats upgraded? When did the Mirage III come into service? 1961 maybe joining the SAAF a few years later. The Mk-10 was introduced in 1973.
