I will have a dig around, in some book I have there is a photograph of a pilot kneeling with the dustbin that he had shot from his Hunter. Just can not recall which book.

Herewith photo of the 'Jungle Dustbin' as awarded to Flt Lt Oakley Rhodesian Air Force circa 1977(?) Note the trophy dustbin still had its lid in the late 1970's ....

And that is precisely the point. It is wonderful that a tradition from many years ago is still ongoing in the present day.

Please also allow me the following:-
I am fully aware of the sensitivity there may be as regards the history and traditions of the past. However, all countries and their people have parts of their (collective) history which are contentious. What should be remembered is that no one can wish away the facts of history - as unpalatable as some parts may be.

Here's hoping that the tradition of the 'Jungle Dustbin' trophy is maintained. So far so good ....

That is indeed interesting that they continued with that. I guess the results speak for themselves though. The AFZ certainly does have skilled aviators and ones with recent combat experience.

The Aloutte 111's were some of the very first Zim aircraft to reach Kinshasa- supposedly aboard the Ilyushin Il-76 'Candid' transporters. The AFZ armed and used the Aloutte 111's as K-cars and G-cars as they employed the 'Fire Force' concept to halt and crush the seemingly unstoppable Rwandan and Ugandan backed rebel advance towards Kinshasa. May some one be kind enough to explain how the Fire Force concept worked...and thanks in advance.

The one you think is South African is a SAAF machine.
The 20mm cannon is a mauser design MG-151 from WWII as used on Luftwaffe aircraft the most famous being the Bf-109 and Fw-190
The twin machine guns are also from WWII, British Brownings in calibre .303 (7.7mm) as used on RAF aircraft

what would we know without pngwerume ? Please post F7s in the DRC war if you have any. Thanks in advance

I've been wanting to ask this question for some time, these MG-151's, where were they sourced, I assume they were manufactured post WWII?
