Each pod contained a 12,7mm machine gun.
This pod was only carried on the Impala Mk 1 in the light attack/armed tactical reconnaissance role, as well as being used in the training role for Air-Ground firing.
The pods were withdrawn from service in 1993 when the Air-Ground gunnery was removed from the training syllabus and Air-Ground firing was done on the Impala Mk 2's.
