THE AIRFORCE - VEHICLES - GAMO 5

GAMO 5

Status: Retired
Role: General Purpose

Description:
The Gamo 5 was used to supply cooled air to the Mirage F1 aircraft when on readyiness for scramble / take-off.

The Gamo did not have a conventional steering wheel but a lever that was located on the central console Hydraulic steering, but the actual drive train was electrical.

The Mirage F1CZ had a small panel just in front of the nose wheel bay. The Gamo umbilical pluged in there and provided the 110 volt 400hz, 2 volt DC, air conditioning, hydraulic cooling for the Cyrano IV and ground communications.

On startup, once the aircraft alternator control units stabilized, the switch over would would take place and the umbilical plug would drop out. The panel door would close and the aircraft was independent.
