Air Force Gymnasium
"E Gymnasio Virtus" (The Gymnasium Brings Forth Virtue)The primary task of the Gymnasium is basic training of all new airforce members.
The Air Force Gymnasium was founded on 1 December 1951 at AFS Lyttleton, with the first intake of 133 recruits on 3 February 1952. In January 1959 the Air Force Gymnasium moved to Valhalla, opposite AFB Swartkop.
Due to the sinkhole activity at Valhalla, Military Skills Development (MSD) and Reserve Force recruits moved to AFB Hoespruit on 11 January 2009, to commence with their training at the Boston Training Facility.
