AFB Ysterplaat (Cape Town)
The SAAF Museum satellite at AFB Ysterplaat is the second largest military
aviation museum in South Africa. The Museum houses an interesting and
varied collection of exhibits covering the full period of the SAAF's
existence and it's operational activities as well military and civil
aviation in the Cape. In addition to aircraft, weapons, engines, uniforms,
etc, is a small display of Royal Flying Corps memorabilia.
A gift shop selling books, models and posters is operated on weekdays
and all profits are used to assist the Museum. Refreshments are available
at the Astra Cafe adjoining the Museum complex, but food is not allowed
in the display halls. Facilities for the handicapped include special
parking and ramps, but restroom facilities are not available.
The Library holds a large selection of aviation related books, refrences
and research material, technical manuals, aviation related magazines,
logbooks and photographs. These reference materials are available to
serious researchers on weekdays from 09h00 to 16h00 by prior appointment.
A copy service is not available.
Visiting hours
The Museum is open Monday to Friday from 7.30am to 3.30pm and on Saturday from 8.30am to 12.30pm. The Museum is closed on Sundays and public holidays.

By Car:
From the N1 National Road or Black River Parkway (M5), take the Milnerton off-ramp and proceed onto Koeberg Road. Continue up Koeberg Road until the traffic lights and turn right into Piet Grobler Street. The Museum is situated inside Ysterplaat Air Force Base.
By Public Transport
Golden Arrow buses depart from the Grand Parade Bus Station in central Cape Town bound for Brooklyn, Milnerton and Killarney. Alight at Bus Stop No. 587 in Koeberg Road (opposite Piet Grobler Street).
