Description:

At the start of World War II, South Africa impressed many private civil aircraft into the SAAF for use to train pilots and staff on the repair and maintenance of aircraft.

Many of these aircraft were also for communications between HQ and the air schools and operational training units. The the civilian aircraft were allocated serials 1401, 1402 and 1560.

A further 14 military Dominees (1353 to 1366) were received in 1941 for use iwith the Electrical and Wireless Schools, but they were deemed unsuitable and ended up being used as communication aircraft.
