A Medal Parade was held at AFB Ysterplaat this morning during which medals were awarded to 29 members.
The Tshumelo Ikatelaho Medal, a General Service medal awarded for service in military operations for which individual campaign medals are not issued, was presented to seven Base personnel by the Revue Officer, Brig Gen Wiseman Mbambo (Director Air Capability Planning). A further 22 recipients received 10 and 20 year Good Service medals.
In his address, Mbambo emphasised the importance of disciplie in the military. He said that military service was a calling and that members put their lives on the line for the benefit of the nation.
"Unlike a uniform which can be taken off after hours, always wear your integrity and never take it off," Mbambo told the Parade.
Mbambo continued, "Carry out (your) task and service should not be for personal gain, but service before self must be perceived in the context of integrity and human dignity."
