New OC for AFCP

A change of command parade was held at Swartkop Airfield today when Brig Gen Les Lombard took over command of the Air Force Command Post (AFCP) from Brig Gen Anton Kriegler.
This post is the most senior Officer Commanding post in the SAAF and reports to the General Officer Commanding Air Command directly. Kriegler was appointed to the position in October 2006.
The Officer Commanding, AFCP, is responsible for coordinating, monitoring and control of supported air power capabilities for force preparation for Chief of the Air Force. This includes employment, monitoring and control of supported combat ready air power capabilities in order to conduct internal and external air operations as tasked by Chief Joint Operations. Additionally, the AFCP is responsible for supporting air transport for the President, Deputy President, cabinet ministers and deputy ministers as governed in the Cabinet Memorandum for VVIP Air Transport.
