Date: 16 August 2007
A 21-year-old air force lieutenant has become South Africa's first black female pilot, displaying her skill when she flew an army helicopter, media reports said on Thursday.
Phetogo Molawa, from the central Free State Province, on Wednesday entertained guests and defence force members by flying the big Oryx Air Force transport helicopter at the third Women's Conference in Defence. The show in Centurion, outside Pretoria, was attended by Deputy Defence Minister Mluleki George.
"It is excellent fun. I do not think there is anything better, I think it is the best thing ever," Molawa, who recently completed her pilot training at the defence force, said in an interview Thursday on SABC.
