Fatal Allouette III Crash
Date: 3 September 1999
A SAAF Allouette III helicopter crashed near Port Elizabeth yesterday, killing the pilot and seriously injuring two people. Major KA Newman, 50, was killed instantly. F/Sgt MW Bottom, 37, and Corporal G Etsebeth were seriously injured.
A SAAF commission of inquiry was established to investigate the cause of the accident. The call for help from the pilot was recorded.
