Brazil Acquires ex-SAAF Impalas

Brazilian Air Force plans to acquire Atlas Impala jet trainers from the South African Air Force appear to be progressing.

MB-326M Impala Mk Is 484, 505, 522, 528, 551, 552, 566, 599 and 601, together with MB-326K Impala Mk IIs 1003 and 1034, were all reported as heving been delivered to Brazil in June 2005.

All were previously flown by the SAAF's 85 Combat Flying School at Hoedspruit, which is now due to re-equip with the BAE Systems Hawk Mk120. This comprises half of the initial batch of 22 aircraft that were to be part of the deal: Brazil has options on a further 23 aircraft.
