The Wings Parade held on 23 May 2024, at the Air Force Base Langebaanweg Central Flying School was a momentous occasion, celebrating the achievements of the South African Air Force's finest.

The parade marked the culmination of rigorous training for the pilots and flight attendant who received their wings insignia, symbolising their readiness to take to the skies in defence of the nation.

The event was graced by the presence of distinguished guests, members of the media, and esteemed members of the South African Air Force Association. The Deputy Chief of the  SA Air Force, Major General Mayenzeke Matanda, delivered an inspiring address, highlighting the dedication and hard work required to complete the training courses. The Deputy Chief of  SA Air Force's speech was a poignant reminder of the sacrifices made by the military personnel and their unwavering commitment to service.

Among the award winners, Second Lieutenant S.E. Molapo was honoured with the South African Air Force Association Floating Trophy, awarded for the most overall improvement on the Pilot's Wings Course at Central Flying School for Course 129. 2 Lieutenant J.G. Venter received both the Air Command Floating Trophy for the highest percentage during the theoretical phase and the Air Force Board Floating Trophy for the highest overall percentage during the flying phase of the course.  Additionally, the Inkawzi Floating Trophy, recognising the highest overall percentage in the Pilots' Wings Course, was also bestowed upon 2 Lieutenant J.G. Venter.

The parade also recognised the following individuals who received their wings insignia and rank insignia: Captain J.P. Sinyane, Second Lieutenant D. Bowels, Second Lieutenant L.M. Dube, Second Lieutenant L.M. du Toit, Second Lieutenant M.E. Lebelo, Second Lieutenant S.E. Molapo, Second Lieutenant J.G. Venter, Second Lieutenant N.O. Ntsieng, Second Lieutenant T.P. Masombuka and Second Lieutenant S.E. Shongwe. Sergeant B. Phalane was awarded the flight attendant wings bronze.

The Wings Parade was not only a celebration of individual achievements but also a testament to the collective spirit and camaraderie that define the South African Air Force. A day of pride and joy for the nation, as the brave men and women stepped forward to serve with honor and distinction. The parade was a vivid display of the Air Force's values of loyalty, courage, and precision, and it served as an inspiration to all who aspire to reach great heights in service to their country.

The  Deputy Chief of SA Air Force’s address was a powerful reminder of the South African Air Force's vision to continuously build and maintain airpower and space power components, emphasising the importance of discipline, professionalism, and innovation within the air force. The Deputy Chief of SA Air Force expressed honor and excitement to be the main functionary at such a prestigious occasion, where military aircrew wings were awarded to ten pilots and one flight attendant. The address emphasised the importance of discipline and professionalism, which are the cornerstones of military aviation. The Deputy Chief of SA Air Force also highlighted the challenges faced by the South African Air Force, including budget constraints and the need for self-reliance away from commercial industry dependence.

The Deputy Chief of  SA Air Force's address included a call to action for all members to roll up their sleeves for a better Africa and to ensure the safety of the South African people. The address also touched upon the relationship between sovereignty and military force, stressing the need for a robust defence sector to protect the nation's sovereignty. The Deputy Chief of SA Air Force encouraged the members to be innovative and develop new systems to match up with other air forces around the world, ensuring the South African Air Force's role in supporting the state's defence and security.

The Deputy Chief of SA Air Force further expressed gratitude to all the instructors, ground crew, and base members who supported the students and maintained a high standard of training. 

The Wings Parade 2024 not only recognised the achievements of its members but also reinforced the South African Air Force's commitment to safeguarding the nation's skies and serving with honour and distinction. There was clarity that the South African Air Force's commitment to excellence resonated through every rank, from the leadership to the newest members adorned with their wings. As the parade participants marched off the field, they carried with them the pride and admiration of a grateful nation, ready to face the challenges ahead with courage and determination.
