Tooth Rock range leased to abalone company
Date: 6 March 2002
An 111-hectare piece of government owned land, formerly known as the Tooth Rock weapons range near Saldanha in the Western Cape, has been leased to a company for the development of an abalone farm. The property would be leased for a period of 10 years at R875 000 annually, at a 6% annual escalation, with an option to purchase the property after the lease expires.
Many will remember the range when various aircraft would visit Langebaanweg in order to fire rockets and cannons at the rock jutting out of the sea. Needless to say, not much remains today!
