News just in is that a SAAF aircraft crashed early this morning on the R45 road which runs alongside AFB Langebaanweg on the Cape west coast.

A Lt Colonel and a Captain were critically injured and taken to a nearby private hospital when their Cessna Caravan crashed whilst performing night exercises.

AFB Langebaanweg is home to the Central Flying School, but at least two C-130 Hercules aircraft and other light transport aircraft have been seen operating in the area and between AFB Langebaanweg and AFB Ysterplaat in the past few days.

4 Special Forces Regiment is also based nearby at Langebaan, but it is not known if they are involved in the training exercises.
