Museum Provost Crashes
Date: 18 March 1998
The Percival Provost, which had only recently been restored to flying condition, crashed on Wednesday 18 March 1998 at AFB Swartkop. The pilot, Rick Culpan, sustained serious burns, but sadly died on Sunday due to respiratory problems.
A test pilot for Denel Aviation, Rick was practicing for an airshow which was held on Saturday and was in the circuit when the aircraft crashed, destroying the Prentice beyond repair. At the moment of impact, one wing was torn off and both the canopy and the pilots helmet were lost. A board of investigation has been convened.
