The Department of Public Works has held a one-day conference for property developers, investors and financiers interested in buying and developing redundant state property, including a number of military bases.

They included, in the Western Cape, former military bases at George, Tooth Rock and Langefontein near Saldanha on the West Coast, Ysterplaat Air Force Base (AFB) and Wingfield logistics centre in Cape Town. A former special forces base and airstrip at Port St Johns in the Eastern Cape was also up for grabs, department chief director Gugu Mazibuko said, as were facilities at Mmabatho, Pomfret and Mafikeng in the North West together with Thaba Nchu in the Free State. AFB Waterkloof in Pretoria would be partly sold, but all of AFB Swartkops would go.
