EXERCISE NDLOVU 11
Date: 1 November 2011
The Chief South African National Defence Force (C SANDF) is planning to conduct a reaction capability exercise to evaluate the operational reaction capabilities of the SANDF. These capabilities will be put to the test and be assessed to determine gaps that will be addressed and strong points that will be enhanced and maintained.
For the SANDF to prepare the required forces and capabilities with the limited resources available, it is necessary to utilise the Services and Divisions annual Force Preparation Exercises as a vehicle to plan and conduct this joint exercise. The exercise will be focused on the theatre level and be executed at the campaign level, while allowing the achievement of objectives and participation of Services and Divisions in a joint manner.
The name of the exercise has been approved by C SANDF and is henceforth to be known as EXERCISE NDLOVU 11. The exercise is designed to execute and practice various aspects of strategic, operational, tactical and technical nature within the campaign. These aspects of operations are to be exercised to enhance the joint operational preparedness of the SANDF.
The exercise concept intends to create a framework challenging staff and commanders at the various tactical levels with time, distance and space realities. In essence it reflects deep operations over a wide front and the latter's implications on tactical operations and the support of these operations. The exercise will be conducted from Bloemfontein, Potchefstroom, Kimberley, Upington, Postmasburg and the western seaboard in the vicinity of Laaiplek.
The strategic objective of EXERCISE NDLOVU 11. To establish the capacity to stabilize a failed state BMO early intervention by a mission trained South African Force. The main focus will be on the Headquarters at the respective levels to exercise sound command and control.
