Evening all,

Firstly thanks to Dean for the add, I'm a Durbanite living in the UK now and am trying to track down as much information as possible regarding my Grandfather. He raised me in absence of my father and was the man I always held as my hero. I knew he fought in WWII and only recently has more info come to light as he was always very secretive about it. He joined the SAAF aged just 13 after his mother falsified his birth certificate to state he was about to turn 16.

The only information I have regarding his history with the SAAF is as follows,

Born Cornelius Hendrik Haarhoff, known also as Henry

DOB 21/06/26
He was an armourer (loading bombs) for 24th Squadron in Italy and Egypt throughout the war
His dog tag serial number is 282545

If anyone could shed any light on him, his squadron and more specifically the armourers I would be most appreciative as i am trying to build a small tribute to him for myself.

As a side note, he was also a motorcycle racer and the very Henry that 'Henry's knee' was named after at Roy Hesketh track after losing his leg in a crash there.

Best wishes
CD

EDITTED to correct dog tags number.

I've just emailed you some contact details of researchers who may be able to assist in obtaining info from the Archives.

Many thanks Dean, All received.

I have tried my best but my google-foo is weak and only brings up info mainly on the pilots with minimal to nothing on the ground crews. My uncles have his badges and medals etc which I hope to get photos of when possible.

Best wishes
