Oh so close now! Got the mannetjies painted in SAAF colours, made some lame imitation bang seats and now just need to put the lid on. I'm going to fix the canopy permanently and have an access panel below it towards the nose as a battery and receiver compartment. It'll also serve as a nice cavity for nose weight.

I got the split elevator wires in too. I wanted to have them tapered like the drawings, so had to actuate them separately. Worked out quite lekker in the end.

To do now: install aileron servos, fix canopy, battery panel, the two strips that go on the airbrake and the vortex generators on the wings (are they even worth it?).

Then I hope to do a few flat field bungee test launches to check the CG is cool and then TIOAH!!

Something unauthentic about the canopy - both the colour and the width of bracing.

Not much if they're blanked off like this. There is drag, but it's not noticeable, compared to having them open and flowing through. On a glider anyway.

Pffffffttt

The canopy is incorrect. The colours on the entire model are too... The canopy is actually a modified F15 B2 canopy, which does the job. It was cheaper to do that than go through the process of making a mold, prepping it and then sending it off to be vac'd. But it looks the part and I'm happy with it. There was no definitive reference for the canopy framing, so I just sucked it and did it kinda correct like innit, using the paints I had to hand. Budget modelling!

If I was building a model to compete with, then I'd go through the trouble and extra expense to get things right. This has cost in the region of £150 to build over the past few months. It's a slopie, so going to get knocked about, the 1/4 Spit that's coming after the Imp will be invested in heavily to be accurate as I'm going to compete with it on an international level.
