Yes Roger, it does look rather strange! It is out of the prop turbulence because the boat uses a surface piercing propeller. As you can see in one of my photos, the shaft exits at the bottom of the transom, this means that only about 55-60% of the prop is submerged at high speed. The prop will then naturally cavitate, leaving a mix of high speed water and bubbles in its path. A rudder needs to be fully submerged in "clean" water to work effectively. The offset rudder overcomes this problem, and gives much better handling at all speeds.
