I am not sure if the company in Goma and the one in the hills are the same company or if it is two seperate companies. But the total number of troops seems to be 250.Hope they send some infantry with the helicopters.

Does anyone have any news on our deployment to the DRC? :?:
Has the regiment been deployed? :|
There was some increase in activity at Waterkloof on the weekend and these last two days but not really significant. :roll:

There is a few hic ups. Only about 500 solders have been delpoyed from both tanznian and SA. I bielve 50/50.

The problem is 2 fold. Logistics both in moveing the men and supplys and where to host the SA solders. The seconded problem is SA is a bit miffed at a few UN choices.

Hi All
I was at 6 SAI on Saturday. The base was like a ghost town. The staff there stated the A, B, C, D companies had left that morning by bus. The had finished training on friday (had 2 oryx and rooivalk there for the past week) and would be deploying for a year instead of six months. They would be flying out this past monday.

Regards
Franco

Yes, so the slightly higher activity at Waters must have been for that then #-o
Thought I picked it up but as it wasn't much I didn't think much of it. 8)

Ok, according to IOL news, the troops will be leaving for "Goma" before the end of this weekend. They state a number of 1300 heavily armed troops with light artillery support (120 mil mortars) and only two Rooivalk helicopters.
What they want to do with only two Rooivalks I'm not so sure :shock:
I think we will have to wait until more facts are available. :?

They are there to escort the Oryx choppers and protect them against attack.

@Eugene
The mandate of the new force to the DRC has changed. This might lead to additional tasks for the attack choppers. :wink:

I doubt it - one thing the rebels do not have is much armour. What they do need is to secure the landing grounds for the other choppers.

The Rooivalk doesn't have a significant anti-armour capability anyway - it's only weapons are 70mm rockets and a 20mm gun.
