I have 3 bottels of Simonsvlei wine bottled and labled for 32 Battalion. Wine must be "heeltamaal vrot" by now but maybe someone can find a use for them. Just gathering dust now.

Offers welcome.

How interesting! As to their condition much will depend on how they were stored. I assume they were bottled many years ago? I can see mildew around the corks / tops which may indicate deterioration of the corks themselves over the years. Excessive exposure to a hot environment may have caused this, which in SA is easily done. This will have an impact on the quality of the wine.

The White seems to have discoloured and gone quite yellowish indicating further fermentation in the bottle - resulting in a musty semi-sweetish taste, somewhat rough in the mouth.
The Rose is hard to judge but will go the same way as the White.
The Red will partly depend on what grapes were used, how it was stored (lying down being better than standing upright) and where it was stored (dark cool cupboard being the best). Many SA Reds can be stored for 8 or so years and longer depending on the vintner and storage.

To clean or not to clean the bottles? Yes, they will look better if wiped carefully with a damp soft cloth, taking care not to damage the labels. Many will say leave them as they are .... and weave a story around them .... something like how they were donated to Col Jan Breytenbach as CO of Buffalo Battalion to celebrate how they kicked Cuban a..e in southeast Angola! :D :smt021 :smt030

That's a good outcome! I've never seen an item like this before.
