Was that Rooivalk for FSX at Darrington Municipal Airport (1S2)? I recognize the yellow building, unless ORBX used it some other airfield as well.

Could be, I didn't capture the screenshot, got it from Rich, so I just posted it. Nice scenery! That made me fire up my FSX again, but got frustrated again with the low FPS

Need a bigger PC, PLEASE SANTA!

I still have to see a PC that can run FSX with nice FPS. My system specs are way over the suggested specs and I still struggle, especially around major cities. However, I did notice an increase in FPS when I set the desired FPS on unlimited and run the game at the screen's resolution.

I think it will be great to fly the Rooivalk from Darrington, you can follow the river and do some nice flying in the valleys.

Yeah I have to work on the CFG, I see it have a problem with fuel.

BTW, I note my FSX only used one core of my CPU, although I have played around with Affinity.

I have a Intel Core2Duo 2.8GHz, 3 GB RAM, and a 1GB graphic card. It's running OK I think. My laptop is a Core2Duo 2.0GHz, 2 GB RAM and 128 MB gaming Graphics - and I don't even have FSX installed on it - have to set scenery so you can basically see the runways only to play it reasonable well.

Yes Rino, I have to agree with you.
I have a top of the pile i5 Quad-core with 3.2GHz clock speed and 8Gig of ram. My screen-card is a Nvidia 460GTX with 768Mb on-board ram and I struggle sometimes. When I fly a helicopter and try to land it on the roof of a building in Tokio harbour, the frame-rate drops down to as low as 7 fps. That makes it just about impossible to land the heli. So I have to adjust the graphics down a lot to get more than 20 fps so I can fly properly, but then the environment is so bad I'm not enjoying it anymore.
I'm now looking at buy a better screencard with at leest 2Gb of onboard ram. That might do the trick. The minister of finance is a bit of a problem though. She seems to be against this purchase for some reason.

Okie Dokie, since Jakes is following the real world example concerning delivery of the Rooivalk, lets keep the post alive with a hijack...

FSX is a bit of a problem. While I personally think it allows for a far more realistic simulation that the previous MSFSs, it also forces your PC on its knees with hardware demand. There is some who claim they play FSX with reasonable FPS on a Q6600 with a 8800GT and 2Gb RAM. I call "LIES!". My PC is far better than that and still struggles.
Although, I have to admit with no add-on scenery (of any kind) I can fly everywhere with no frame drop. But as soon as you install any add on scenery, the framerate drops, whether its Aeroworx or ORBX, the result is the same. The main reason why I don't fly in SA anymore is because Aeroworx's sceneries brings my PC to its knees, especially Cape Town, and doesn't even look as good as ORBX. I mainly fly around the Pacific North West now using the ORBX scenery, I only have to remove the humans from the scenery for it to work (so no girl in a bikini in a swimming pool for me  ).

I found the following link, http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html , where you enter your PC specs and you will receive a config file that will help you out. It did work for me, just make a backup of your own config file first. I get high 40s in the rural areas and low 20s in the city.

Initially FSX was a bit of a dud, but lately developers really started to bring all sort of nice things to the table. Just look at the new A2A products, the B-17, P-40 and P-47 with Acu-Sim, its making the FSX experience much more realistic and challenging. Look at the ORBX scenery and what they achieved. Personally I don't mind paying the high prices for the products, because I spent lots of time using the products and it really makes a difference. (And it makes it harder to go over to X-Plane...)

But enough of that, Jakes how is the Rooivalk coming along? Hehe

Seeing that we're all moaning about FSX - let me get you lot excited about Microsoft's flight simulator to come out some time : MS FLight.

They have used a new graphics engine which will make the user use less system resources. It means it will not use a top machine to play it nicely - in actual fact - less than FSX.

The AI is going to be great - when you fly over a tree at low level and high speed, some leaves will actually fall off.

opening a door of the plane while flying, will make the plane change direction according to the size and place of the door.

That's all I can remember from the discussion with the MS guy...

Hi Ryno,
MS Flight is dissapointing, to say the least. First of all, you only have a specific theatre you can fly in, I think it is Hawaii. To fly on other parts of the world, you need to buy the addons . Now you can say yes, I wil buy it, as FSX and FS9 want free as well.
The second point. No Scenery development or any SDK's will be available. Aircraft SDK MIGHT be available in the future, but then you can only install them from MS Flight's website. So no 3'rd party addons is allowed - Thus you fly onlu what they make available. Also, their latest addon aircraft haven't got a VC as well. Something one would say is a MUST on a high end graphics game.
So if you want to just fly and have great graphics, MS Flight is for you. If you are serious, and want for example FAYP to look like FAYP, MS Flight will seriously disappoint you ;)

agh no jakes! That's bad news - so no Gripen / Cheetah.
MS is really dumb then. How many people will buy it ion future then? I don't fly Cessna / Boeing anymore. I fly Gripen / Mirage F1 exclusively.

Nathan, When you download my FALW scenery on FSWorld (you need to register , its free) the AI PC7 package comes with it. It work on FS2004 as well as on FSX)
Just go to the downloads page on fsworld.co.za
