That particular wall doesn't actually have that much free space beyond what you can see to the left of the flag. There was a red SA army of the same type as this one and was intending to get both but did not expect their price to go as high as they did. I had to choose one or the other, so chose what I believe was the better option (the army one had a small rip in it).

Ideally I'd like have all of them but especially a SAAF one. The search continues...

The SADF flag that I have, where was this flag typically flown? At various head quarters?

That green flag is for the Chief of the SADF, the flashes worn by the personnel working there were also green with the Castle with swords, eagle and anchor.

Should read Anchor SAN, Wings SAAF, swords Army, why I put eagle I do not know.

The SApolice camo uniforms in 2nd pattern come in different shades etc but all are just general issue no difference.

Must also send you those goodies I promised you to make the SAPolice winter tunic 100% complete, I keep forgetting I'll blame old age creeping up for that one. Please PM address again.

Natal Carbineers - shoulder arc was adopted in 1940s and was "Royal Natal Carbineers" until mid sixties. They are of the pattern later worn by most units on the old bunny jacket during the 1960s. These are still worn on by NC on certain orders of dress, though only by other ranks if i remember correctly. Officers wear metal NC shoulder titles on their service dress jackets. NC is classified as a "Traditional Regiment" and as such is allowed to wear these as a dress distinction.

The rank on the right arm only is an old cavalry custom that has been adopted as a regimental distinction. During WWII incidentally all South African NCOs were instructed to wear rank on the right arm only in 1940 but that was as a cost saving measure rather than a cavalry tradition.

I see your "avatar" has Auck N Regt connections. I might be able to help you out with some SAP buttons and a lanyard.

As for WO position, I'll check if I can find some regs. in my files. I also "know someone who will know" that I can contact to confirm SAP practice. As far as the army and SAAF WOs were concerned it was half an inch (or the thickness of a finger) above the point on the cuff.

If you have some SAP shoulder titles / lanyard (and maybe a Sam Browne belt?) I'd be most grateful. Yes, 3ANR is the reserve unit that I was with after I left the RF (regular force).

Well after much head scratching, I think I've finally found out what the ISCOR badge is about. The reverse has the number 164 and the letters SAM stamped at the bottom which I assume stands for SA Mint. Apparently it might be one of the series of "on war service" badges worn by those that were part of essential services. The badges were all numbered and strictly controlled, to prevent harassment of those persons not volunteering for uniformed service.

If anyone has any similar sort of "on war service" badges, I'd be interested to see them.
