By the looks of it airfix does have a 1/72 chipmunk, it looks likes a rerelease.
So what you Okes think!maybe we can have two group builds running at the same time when we start with the next one, like theuns suggested :smt023

I would like to ressurect the idea of the SAAF Fast Jets GB, ideally beginning 1 July 2012, running to maybe 30 September 2012.

How does this grab anyone?

We could go for no more than 20-25% started (think maximum cockpit assembled and painted up), any SAAF military JET, FIXED WING aircraft either historic or in-service, special schemes (Aerosud/Spotty/Black Widow etc.) can be accommodated.

Personally I'm dying to start my Scaleworx F1AZ!

Why don't we just let the idea of GB's within a specific time scale go? Maybe instead of limiting ourselves to a theme within 2-3 months we could have the various themes like TPT/Maratime aswell as Fastmovers and Helos running concurrent for the rest of the year.

In this way it will open the field to more folks who might not want to do a specific theme but rather one of the others, aswell as leaving us with more time per theme to do multiple or very complicated builds.

I recon this is the best compremize, imputs???

Well... That kind of negates having a GB really, as that what the SAAF model forum already is for.

I can see your reasoning, as there are only a finite number of SAAF modellers, and not everyone wants to model the same era/aircraft.
Part of the GB idea is that you get people who want to build the same aircraft (eg a single type GB) or aircraft from the a similar timeframe (the WWII- Korea GB) or single focus (eg.fast jets). By having the GB, people can compare, share, motivate and provide valuable shared information.

Maybe we should just build to our own pace and ideas, especially as it isn't cheap to join in with a model you don't really want, or have to wait in agony for a certain 'spot' to come around for a GB.

But, I'm going to be building my F1AZ during July to September, so I'll post it up anyway.

The idea with the GB is toas you say do a certain theme and we shuold stick to that, the only difference is that the time scale now is just longer.

If we run a few at the same time we can cater to a wide tase for modlers and they are not under pressure to join in some GB they don't really want to. We can also take our time with a build and not rush it.

Just an idea, use it -don't use it

Fair enough Theuns,

I agree with the longer time frame, allow more people to finish and not get disheartened. And I suppose having a diverse but concurrent number of group builds will encourage more to join in.

Looking forward to building that F1AZ :D

Hope it will get more folks to join in. What say you other builders, sound like a workable plan?

i reckon thats a great idea, you can build at your own pace, build more than one model at a time, as you all know and have done so we always have more than on model on our tables waiting to be completed
and we can also build the theme that you want to.
im all in get the threads started =D> =D> =D>

For the fast movers I will do a Hobbyboss 1/48 IIIcz (bare metal)and a 1/72 Academy F-86 (CL 13) in SAAF cammo :D

For rotorwing I hope to get a 1/72 Puma, 1/72 Italeri MiL 24 D (Angolan AF) and maybe a 1/72 S-55 in Silver.

Display teams ???

Trainers maybe another 1/72 Academy T-6 and try lay my hands on something like an Imp 1 or similar.
