Very nice work especially taken into consideration the short time taken to build it.

Hi Guys

I'm looking for pic's of the Shackleton wheel bays (not the front one) - in particular I'm looking for the angle of the main strut from the side, is it 90degrees? Also looking for more detail on the angular support strut that goes forward from the base into the wheel bay

I'm not convinced with the angles & details of the struts provided with my kit - suspect I may have to do some modifications?

Can anyone shed any light on this please

I'd like to send pics but as yet do not have access to broadband & pc at home ,not sure how to get pics from iPad or iPhone onto forum pages - new Internet connection due tomorrow

Cheers

I have had a look in my SAAF Shackleton Tech books as issued by Avro on handover and various photos on the net of the MR3. They all show the main undercarriage as set at a slight angle (top of main strut is at the rear of the bay and it angles slightly towards the front of the aircraft). The angle that the old Frog kit has its undercarriage set is about the correct angle.
The only way you are going to get a more detailed pic of the undercarriage (main strut and support strut) is if some one or yourself is willing to got to the aircraft at Swartkops (SAAF Museum) and gets permission to go past the barrier to photograph the main undercarriage and wheel bays. I would take pics over here in the UK but the nearest MR3 variant is 2 - 3 hours drive away.

Hope these can help. All except the first one, are from the gate-guard Shack at Ysterplaat. The gate guard shack is on supports, but the shot of 1722 on her wheels seem to show the same angles.

Fantastic response thanks, couldnt have asked for better, all my suspicions confirmed

The kit strut fits at a forward angle so that's confirmed

The support strut going forward is very basic on the kit connected with an exaggerated box which I will try to reduce in size or reproduce

Now onto the gun ports which don't appear on the kit

I was pleasantly surprised the other day after starting the build to discover I had taken a bunch of pics of #1721 at Swartkops in 2008 - I took from all angles but did not pay much attention to the back wheels - would appear the kit is fairly accurate in most depts with exception of the front guns & it also looks like there should be a lot more antennae or variations of what has been provided in the kit

Believe our Internet has now been connected so will get some pics out soon

Once again thanks

Theuns

More like efficient Internet we need

My problem is don't know how to use iPad apps for Photobucket & this forum

There's an advanced feature here allowing iPad users the ability to add pictures but it's been disabled?

I'll have to use my pc now that I have Internet at home

Cheers

Great models guys!

Did the SAAF operate any Tiger Moths in the 50's? If they did, I think I'll join in with an Airfix 1/72 Moth.

Here it is:
