Greetings to all you modelers. I want to build a (1:48) Cessna T-37/A-37 as a SAAF "what if." I can't decide between a trainer (T-37 "Tweet") paint job like~
http://img.wp.scn.ru/camms/ar/54/pics/108_8.jpg

or a ground attack (A-37 "Dragonfly") version, using a variation on the SAAF Impala scheme, possibly from this era~

Any thoughts?

Those would both look good.

What about doing it in the standard USAF "Vietnam" cammo but replace the "Tan" with deep buff or dark earth to give it more of a SAAF look.
You could also consider using the darker grey on the under surfaces like the Impala Mk2 and Mirage F1AZ's were using at the end of their service.

I did not do these drawings the credits for the origional artist are on the drawings and for this reason I have left the origional captions, titles and badges, I have only modified colour schemes, castles and details to give an idea of what I am suggesting.

Idea 1
Full SAAF markings, fin flash and serial numbers under wings
Image

Idea 2
Darker cammo with full SAAF markings, fin flash and serial numbers under wings (Or variations of markings eg no fin flash etc)
Image

Idea 3
Darker cammo and low viz markings
Image

Idea 4
The Harvard scheme

I'm stuck between these two. Very nice job on the image editing, gregair!

Thanks,

Hmm what about, if the kit has the wingtip tanks then do the cammo one, if it doesn't then do the colourful one?

Or do the one that will be the most challenging to paint, that will be really satisfying when its done.

Or buy another one and do both

I was going to say "Nice Photoshop work," but you may have used some other program. The actual build will be done by someone else. I have diabetic retinopathy and, although laser surgery has improved the vision in one eye quite a bit over what it was three years ago, the other one is not responding. I have a fairly decent eyesight except for almost no depth perception. Imagine trying to glue tiny parts with rotten depth perception...a nightmare.

I just bought the 1:48 Revell of Germany Dragonfly kit on ebay and don't have it yet. When I get a chance to inspect everything I'll be making a final decision. Your point about challenging paint jobs is well made. Having done many camo schemes in the past, and one or two of the orange-and-white variety, I can testify that the latter can be even more difficult to carry off.
