And here's a pic of the Aires resin main undercarriage bays all painted up - well worth the 300 Zuid Afrikaanse Ronts !

Dude, your builds are always epic! Where do you get the time and patience to do it all with such great detail?

Thanks Avenger ( ) ! Wife and kids are away on holiday while I stay behind to work to pay for said holiday. So weekend has been reserved for model building. You can actually get quite a bit done by spending an hour each evening before bed time as well.

Thanks Bladerunner.

Back from holiday and back to the work bench. Decided to do this in the dark sea grey / green uppers and natural metal undersides. Have decided to paint the upper wing roundels rather than use the decals - lots of fine riveting to think of.

Process as follows - take cardboard and cover an area with normal masking tape. Overlay that with sections of Kamoi tape butted tightly together :

Image

Using circular cutter, cut the outer diameter and inner diameter of the roundels - these are the plain red (inner) and blue (outer) roundels :

Image

Carefully lift off outer section of mask (note "reinforcing" sections of Tamiya tape to keep sections of Kamoi tape together - place carefully onto model - pencil marks are made on the plastic to help ensure correct location :

Keep remaining pieces for later :

Spray base gloss white - needed to ensure nice background to spray red and blue against as they tend not to show up lightly enough if sprayed onto a dark background - this is why I'm doing the roundels first. Once roundels are painted, I'll mask them off and paint the rest of the aircraft :

All done - edge a bit "furry" but will sort that out :

Thought I'd have to do the tail flash in the same colours :

First layer - recommended colour Humbrol Dark Sea Grey Satin 164 - not happy with it - there should be a slightly bluish tint to this.

Thanks :D

Had a bit of a blapsie - looks like some residual glue from the Kamoi tape (never had this problem with Tamiya tape) reacted with the paint and resulted in sticky patches which would not dry :? Had to sand the paint right down to the base plastic to get the sticky stuff off. Crap !

Image

Paint has been successfully reapplied :D

And now for the completed gat-kant of the aerie care of Aires resin - wonderfull detail - well worth the 200 zuid afrikaanse ronts !

The rusty colour is a mix of Tamiya X-18 black, X-16 aluminium and Humbrol red.
