With all this smoke & rockets talk ... I've gone Bossies ... and what great stories this little plane has to tell :D

Of the Bosbok's that I intend to profile, one must be that of Captain Danie Laubscher with his smoke rocket attack, then there is #934.

N° 934 c/n2015, was written off on the 3rd September 1987, this was during Operation Moduler. The pilot from 42 sqdn was Lt Richard William Glynn, 82430414PS, his observer was Cmdt Johann Christiaan du Randt, 70517313PE, who was the OC of 4 Art. Regt. They were shot down South of the Lomba River in Angola, whilst on a night artillery spotting mission. The missile which downed them, was fired by a SA-8 "Gecko" from the 21st Brigade, FAPLA. Lt Glynn attempted an emergency landing on the floodplain of the Lomba river, but unfortunately the aircraft ended up upside down in the mud, resulting in the death of both occupants. The bodies were recovered with assistance from UNITA, by Cmdt Robbie Hartslief and Cmdt Les Rudman. This was the last time that a manned fixed wing light aircraft was used on the battlefield, as the incident accelerated the deployment of the Seeker UAV's.

Cheers

Modular incident was a sad day for all of us. Had been part of the team that had briefed Richard before his flight from Rundu to 'EG' on that fateful evening.
