The mrs & myself took trip out to the museum today .. always a humbling experience to be surrounded by history

IIRC they used to have Junkers Jumo turbojet from a Me262 and a Goblin from a Vampire as well. Are they still there?

Both are still there. The Goblin is in the restoration centre being restored.

After the recent RAAF postings (yes I am also guilty ) it is good to see this has spurred the Kremlins to take a visit to the SAAF museum. Some lovely pics there....and yes - super to immerse ourselves in our history !

It was an epic walk through time Although, standing in hangar#4, looking at Pelican22, staring at those huge Griffon engines, & wondering when we will get to hear a sound like that again ... ai ai ai.

Once we were back at home, we watched the royal wedding & saw & heard the BOB memorial flight !! The view from the nose of the Lancaster as they flew over the palace was amazing.

I visited the musuem for the first time at the beginning of the month. Walking into that giant hanger made my jaw drop and my skin tingle. But seeing the dust on those aircraft, the cracks, the broken canopies, the glue from duct tape around the canopies, was something that hurt. Yes, it's run by volunteers and there's no money, but c'mon, it isn't that difficult to make some protective covers for those aircraft.

On a positive note, the displays showing the uniforms and varies events have been put together very well. And the amount of model aircraft in there is quite amazing.

That is seriously cool! I used to have a reprint of a painting by Frank... surname started with a "W" and it showed a single spitfire emerging from the clouds, also a Mark V (I think) which were IIRC the first Spitfires to be fitted with 20mm cannon?
