I feel like doing that with my Oryx profile  I still need to do the winch, tail and main rotor line art before the painting can start.

BTW I was thinking of doing dedicated profiles for the MK4 & MK6 series of the Martin Baker Ejection Seats. Still gathering reference material - but getting an exact side-on shot of an ejection seat in full length is a bit of thing it seems. Unless there is an ejection seat at a Museum somewhere where a guy can go and take some pics :?:

I wanted to do a profile on the ejection seat that came out of Cheetah C 349 when it crashed in 2003. I went with the pilot that ejected from 349 to go and fetch the chair back in 2008 from Waterkloof. It was quite an experience seeing what it looked like after an ejection. Pretty interesting stuff

ooh, main rotor .. tail rotor ... there's still many hours waiting for you there :(

Getting a side view photo of the Mk4 & 6 bang seat, that shows all the detail we need is hectic enough .. then trying to get that hires with the canopy open

I'm still looking for the good shots .... so if you have any ... [-o<

Cheers

I have some pretty neat side on pics of the Hawk's ejection seats - I don't know what version it is, but it looks pretty similar to those used in the Gripen - Might have some Gripen shots as well. I will gladly send you those if you want them - they are pretty sharp. but that's it  No luck with shots of the earlier stuff. The only ref I have is some medium res shots of a Lightning's Martin Baker MK4 on a stand - but they are not completely side on

But the next time I am near a Mirage - pics will be taken for sure

Yeah .. its the earlier Mk4 & 6 seats that are being elusive

I'd trade my kahones for a "back to the future" type machine

I love weekends ... Line drawing for the Mirage IIIE is almost complete. :D

I'm gathering reference at the moment, this photo shows the JL-100 rocket launcher / fuel tank combo nicely. IMHO, this is probably one of the late Herman Potgieter's best photos.

Whoohoo .. Mirage IIIE is finished. :D

The SAAF had initially ordered 16 of the all-weather ground attack version of the Mirage III family. These received the designation Mirage IIIEZ in South African Air Force service. The sixteen aircraft were serialled from 819 - 834.

They differed from the Mirage IIIC in having the forward fuselage extended by 300mm, which allowed for the increase in size of the avionics bay behind the cockpit. The Mirage IIIE's also had the Marconi continuous-wave Doppler navigation radar radome under the cockpit. For the role of ground attack, the E's were fitted with the Thomson-CSF Cyrano II dual mode air / ground radar.

With the loss of 821 in March of 1969, the SAAF ordered a replacement, which received the serial of 842. The aircraft were operated by No 2 Squadron until 1966, when they were handed over to the newly re-formed No 3 Squadron. All sixteen Mirage IIIEZ aircraft were converted to Cheetah E's during the mid 1980's.

I agree with you! I had that picture framed and took it to my Bungalow in Wellington, together with the Cheetah D and two Impala's - now it's gone don't know what happened to it... Would love to get my hands on a copy of that book!

That is an awesome picture of the 1SQN Mir firing the salvo of SNEB - I used to have a massive poster of a Cheetah C made from a picture that H. Potgieter took.

Supremely talented aviation photog.

It's an amazing picture ... I've got the SAAF poster book, .. but there is no way I'm taking the "posters" out of the book to frame .. So now I have a book with very large one page photo's :D

The photo is of a 3 SQN Mirage IIIEZ, which were all handed over to 3 Squadron in 1966.

Cheers

Mr Kremlin, I do not want to rude, but you realize one day you will not be able to draw anymore? the reason is that you are getting so good, your profiles will be seen as photo's! :smt023

Do you have a dedicated showcase for all your profiles? that would be awesome!
