This may seem like a silly question but I am very interested to know what the best way is to capture photographs of lightning strikes.

Obviously my store-bought basic digital camera won't cut the mustard but was hoping for some advice on the best equipment / technique please?

Great photos Monique, photography is something I'm quite interested.

Monique, I heard that photography is the art of playing with light on a palette. You illustrate how true that is. I especially like the one of the lone white ship on the gray ocean with the gray background, that moody shot of the sub with the bird behind it and the shot ofthe A301 with the tug boats next to it and the light reflecting off its sides. Very impressive.

Hi All

With regard to the first pictures, are ships always towed into the harbour or had this one "broken down"?

Monique those photos are awesome.

Ships are not towed in but go in under there own power. Tugs are connected to the ship in case it needs help and then turns it in the harbour.

Only some ships (ones with bow thrusters and/or other special equipment) are able to manoevre in the small spaces inside a harbour. Most need help with "parking" at the dock.

Great pics !!! The IBSAMAR guys are here :D Methinks, though, we got our countries "deurmekaar" ... this looks like the Brazilian Niteroi class.

Weird coincidence though, both navies have a F-40
Brazil F-40 = Niterói
Indian F-40 = Talwar

Cheers

Sitting at Glencairn beach I had my own fleet review as all the ships entered false bay made a big circle and left.

Dont no if any of you guys saw it but the monday after AAD at around 2, I was leaving CT on a plane bound for Durban but on the way up and away I glanced towards Simonstown and low & behold there was SAS Drakensberg leaving port and looking further towards Cape Point I saw the Beginnings of the Indian,South Africa & Brazillian navies making their way into port. Quite a nice sight from 7000ft.
