Dramatic video footage showing the last moments of a prototype Russian Ilyushin Il-112 crashing within sight of Kubinka airbase has appeared in the media, dated Tuesday 17 August 2021. The Il-122 is a light transport aircraft under development for the Russian Air Force. The following extract from a respected aviation publication - KEY.AERO:-

The three crew members who died were chief pilot Hero of Russia, first class test pilot Nikolai Kuimov, first class test pilot Dmitry Komarov and first class test flight engineer Nikolai Khludeev. In an interview with News.ru shortly after the crash, former Ilyushin chief designer Nikolai Talikov claimed that the company had known about problems with the aircraft’s Klimov TV7-117ST turboprop engines for several years but had remained silent about them. A difficult week for Russian aviation:-

1. A Beriev Be-200 fire-fighting aircraft, crashed in Turkey with loss of all eight on-board personnel, on 14 August 2021.

2. A Ilyushin Il-112 prototype, as reported in the previous post, with loss of all three highly experienced crew members, on 17 August 2021.

3. A MiG-29, crashed in Russia's Astrakhan region, with loss of the pilot, on 18 August 2021.
