hmm, bit skeptical about this one. No doubt its very pretty, but it looks more like a adventure experience rather than a hardcore systems orientated simulator. It will be interesting to see what Microsoft plan is, they have a lot of ground to cover to catch up with Xplane and DCS; also given 911, MH370 and a few others incidents are they really going to come back with a full on Simulator?

I see many people are skeptical, but I see no reason why the new flight sim won't build on the previous versions.

I don't know DCS, but Xplane is a very different flight sim. with MS, you built the flight model with the actual specs, whilst Xplane was more an engineering and prototyping system, with you inputting the aircraft detail design and Xplane would output the flight dynamics and spec.

What will be interesting to see is how they handle third party development, as this seems like it will be in the cloud. (no pun intended)

Microsoft Flight Simulator roadmap revealed, insider tests coming soon

Take a look at how internal testing is scheduled for Microsoft Flight Simulator through the rest of 2019.

First revealed during the Xbox E3 2019 showcase, Microsoft Flight Simulator is a reboot of the classic flight simulator games that Microsoft put out years ago. Being developed by Xbox Game Studios in partnership with Asobo Studio, the developers of A Plague Tale: Innocence, this game uses 2 petabytes of geodata to generate the world below and the skies above. Yes, you read that right!

Ahead of its release, Microsoft will be working closely with the community on multiple Insider tests, providing updates on builds of the game and holding a technical alpha.

The Insider program has officially kicked off, with internal testing beginning this month. After providing some various media updates through the rest of August, the next big stop is in late September, when different features will be highlighted. In September, we'll also learn what the plans are for November and possibly beyond.

Microsoft Flight Simulator is currently scheduled to release sometime in 2020 on Xbox One and PC. As with all Xbox Game Studios titled, it will be included in Xbox Game Pass.

This video answered all my questions. We could be entering the golden age of flight simming.

Wow, the hype is getting real! Seems that the engine has got a complete overhaul and the software is more akin to Xplane in how the flight engine is modeled.

Very happy to be have been proven wrong about this.

Looks like its going to be a serious sim for, serious simmers. What is also interesting is the tone coming from Microsoft, they seem to be fairly sincere in wanting to make amends with the flight sim community.
