In no particular order here are the tail numbers excluding the SAAF choppers, they were just too high and far off.

Thanks H1017412, only in South Africa.

I am not sure but as presidential inaugurations go I don't think there are many countries that celebrate with a flypast?

Serials posted above.

Aircraft were departing South using 19, recovering on 01. The first aircraft departed about a 1:30 hours before the run in. It was very impressive to see all the formation elements in holding patterns waiting for their time.

There was one short clip that popped up on the web of three C-130's flying in formation. Couldn't confirm whether it was maybe during the practice for the flypast, or from a past occasion? Would be interesting to know if we can still put up three Herc's at the same time.

Also sad to see the castle insignia on the museum planes taped over. Political correctness gone crazy. They are MUSEUM planes... History is just that... history and cannot be changed.


The clip of the 3 ship Hercules formation may have been from the previous inauguration.

Harvard ZU-CXX is 7675, the number is visible on the wheel doors 100mm high.

Very hard to see the numbers, though it's the same as "Nellie", "The Pilot Maker", which is 7059 and likewise the numbers are the main-wheel doors.

I actually checked to see if I could spot the serial somewhere, forgot it was on the wheel doors.

When did "Nellie" become "The Pilot Maker", and why was the name changed?

Due to maintenance and celebratory functions the "Nellie" colour scheme changed a few times over the years and looked very tatty.

A decision was taken by the HCSA committee to respray certain portions of the aircraft, unfortunately the white portion was the worst and looked dreadful when viewed closeby.

Another decision taken was to allocate a particular aircraft only for training purposes and as 7059 was the only aircraft that did not have a SAAF livery it was decided to utilise 7059 in that role (one of reasons for the name change).

Speaking of Harvard colour schemes I must say that the HCSA Harvard's do look smart in the non-standard orange.

Luckily I can say that the SAAF used International Orange!

To re-paint an aircraft costs an enormous amount of money, with dayglo it's even worse as it fades quickly and requires a "sugar coat" every year!

The generation of funds is the big head-ache and some tasks require more funds than others.

I'm high-jacking the post here!
