I was at 1 Sqn when 800 was painted at BASS, AFB Hoedpsruit. I lost contact with the guy that painted her (he was a meticulous aircraft modeller, he once spent almost 20 hours on a 1/48 F-16 cockpit) and it looks like he isn't in the SAAF anymore. Anyway , as far as I remember, the colour scheme was inspired by the paint scheme applied to a series of 1978/9 Datsun ZX280's.

To me the 800 paint scheme is evocative of the black and gold Lotus F1 livery of the late 1970s.

Hi Phillip

Check out the Facebook page S.A.L.M VLIEGTUIE - TOEKA TOT NOU/ S.A.A.F AIRCRAFT - PAST TO PRESENT.
Jaco van Zyl posted pics on the 31 March 2019, inside and outside pics.
We also had a discussion why she is not flying anymore.

Cheers

I wonder if anyone can help me here.

Does anyone knew or heard about Peet Koekemoer?
I was told it was him who managed to construct her from 2 crusher fighters.
Does anyone know more? Or has any publication on him?
