Nice :smt023 . Is it an optical illusion or is that gun barrel drooping a bit like a banana  . BTW, bought the re-released book Iron Fist From The Sea at Exclusive Books the other day. What a remarkable read about the SAN's submarine and strike craft ops to support 4 and 5 Recce in the '70s and '80s up along the Angolan and Mozambique coastlines.

Nah it's an optical illusion ;) SAS Makhanda has been quite active in the bay the last couple of days, which is a real delight given she is now Durban based. That book (Iron Fist from the Sea) is really quite something. I treasure mine having read it from cover to cover, and then some. A prized gift from Pepster on this forum. What a star!

Yes, I have the book too. Just echoing your sentiments here but the book - probably more than any other I've read to date - really highlights just how heavily involved the navy was in the war.

From the Navy: There will be a firing exercise on 27&28 September 2018 (10h30) and Ceremonial Gun Salute on 01 October 2018 at Lower North Battery.
Gunnery department and Gunnery Part 2 learners will be conducting a 21 Gun Salute with the visiting ship INS KOLKATA from India during Exercise IBSAMAR XI (2018). :D

Looks like some good SAN/SAAF preparation is underway for Exercise IBSAMAR next week. For the last couple of days we've had an A109LUH (4006) doing deck landings on SAS Spioenkop. What a treat for the locals!

Is she very low in the water or is it just a big swell that tricks the eye and camera?

Nice Doug :smt023 . Tarkash looks typical Russian with the rotary launcher at the front. Kolkata is a large ship  . I wonder if India does their own naval vessel design and build programmes ?

Thanks Mistral. I know that the GULF TIMES reports that, for example, "The INS Mumbai, the 10th warship of the same lineage, has been built to an indigenous design at Mumbai's Mazagon Dock Limited. It bristles with a formidable array of weapons backed by state-of-the-art sensors and equipment. The vessel is the third of the Delhi class of guided missile destroyers and represents the Indian Navy’s quantum leap in technology and capability in
the new millennium...."

According to this article one of the Indian Navy's P-8I maritime patrol aircraft will be here. Is this true?
