Has anyone here purchased anything off eBay? I'm just curious to know the shipping experience, how long the wait was and also if the customs costs were reasonable?

There's some nice aviation related stuff I would like to get but don't want to wait 6 months for something either.

Thanks in advance for any information :)

Ebay itself is fine, the problem lies with the SA Post office/customs.
My wife ordered an item in March, got the post office slip yesterday!
The only way around this is using a courier, which will increase the cost unfortunately.
When buying on Ebay, check the feedback score of the seller, I only buy from sellers with more than 100 sales and with a feedback score more than 95%.
Buy with Paypal, your item is automatically insured and you can claim back your money if you have not received the item.

yes just as Jolley Rodger says, check that the supplier has good reviews first and score, make sure they a reputable place.

Our fantastic post office has been on strike in may/jun/july and are most times very slow most times at delivery if you even get your items ordered,So expect to wait 70-90 days for you items,it also depends where you are in SA when it comes to delivery times or if you even get your parcel,do try to make it registered air mail, that you at least have a tracking number and check it on https://t.17track.net seems to be the most reliable tracking,if you can afford it rather just pay for DHL or other courier company,I suggest it if its an expensive item, rather pay R1000 postage than have it lost. And yes make sure its via Paypal.

I've never had any bad experiences with FleaBay either.

Thanks so much for the feedback guys, it's greatly appreciated :)

I've heard quite a few stories of people's items getting stolen by customs so forking out the extra money for a courier seems the safer way to go.

I only use these guys. They get back to you with a full quote with purchase priceall duties/Vat and delivered to your door. I usually wait about 3 weeks for my parcels.

https://www.scottshipping.co.za/

Given up on SAPO, I cant wait 6 months for parcels, with a 20% chance that it will actually get here.

The only problems I've had with SAPO have all been with items going to South Africa. Anything coming from South Africa's always been delivered on time.

Thanks for the feedback guys. Paying the premium on couriers seems the way to go.
