So the canned stuff is gone...

The reviewer is generally not impressed with breakfast. The lunch and dinner items seem better.

Not entirely.

Day 8 contains canned pilchards (love 'em or hate 'em). I also bought a box of 12 as featured on the video to see how they compared to NZ rations.

Not much has changed..other than no tins, pity the fuel tablets are still being used,Unlike most rations now using the water heater bags, the SA Army MRE is still far behind in terms of the US and Russian MRE's,the MRE clearly caters for the majority of colour these days being made sure its Halaal proven..at least there is more menu's now unlike the old ones.

I noticed there was no Esbit in the review video. Is it issued seperately?
The reviewer was not impressed by the packaging.
If you're interested to compare, he has done lots of reviews of modern and even some surprisingly old rations.

Each MRE does come with 8 Fuel tablets,But still no stove..as many other MRE's have a folding stove, cooker.

I'm up for correction but I think that the company that manufactures the rations also does so for some north African countries hence the "halaal" everywhere.

As for the FRH, we have them in our 12 hour ration packs and I think they're somewhat overrated. They waste water as it can't be consumed after it's been heated whereas one can heat 2 x MREs at once in a cups canteen over hexi or gas (depending on the situation), using a similar amount of water, in a similar time.
