Hi Theuns,

the decals are at capetown hub since 19/07....no movement yet :-x

Be prepared to wait roughly three weeks for your parcel to arrive.

I received a registered parcel the other month and it spent roughly ten days at one of the postal hubs.

Was at my local PO this morning and they said that the big backlog is in Jhb. Thus, they have requested all the other mail centres to keep the parcels back until Jhb has cleared the current backlog and will then have space to accept the parcels from the other centres.

For what it's worth my 20kg of freight left South Africa via surface mail and arrived in New Zealand in about 3 weeks. Historically I've never experienced any problems with SAPO with mail ex-SA but multiple issues with mail to SA. In two instances my mail was never received by the recipient and it floated around the postal system for about a year before being Returned to Sender.

I've been waiting a year now for B-58 decals from Caracal in the USA. They were shipped but never arrived. The kind owner sent me a second set almost 4 months ago and they too have disappeared. I reckon some plonker at the local PO thinks it's money and opens the envelope. :?

Its not a joke anymore, or is it?

The South African Postal Services needs to wake up. I was chatting to the people from Planes TV at RIAT, and they were asking me what the problem was with South Africa's post office.

Apparently 80% of their shipments to South Africa Africa never get delivered. They went on to say that South Africa is the only country they experience this with. Whilst they were trying to be polite they basically did not want to take my order.

Before we left I submitted VAT refund forms at Heathrow, all was sorted within a week and a half. They simply took my forms posted and delivered them, its a bit sad when one gets impressed by snail mail.

Simple explanation Marc. They're just bloody useless and there's a lot of sticky fingers around. They learnt from the top. I asked my local Postnet if there was a way of receiving shipments direct to them. They said yes if one opened up a "box" with them but there's monthly rental associated with this. Not sure if imported items still have to go via the post office before getting to a Postnet.

On a similar vein, Jix may be offering an import service at some time and collate orders into a single consignment.

Postnet has a PO Box at their local post office. So when you hire a Postnet box, all your (and every other Postnet box holder) post first goes to the Postnet PO Box at the post office, where it is collected and then sorted into the individual Postnet boxes.

Short answer: All post to a Postnet box goes via a PO box.

Best is to pay a little more and have it sent to a postnet directly. I usually do this and have never lost anything yet. #-o

I've received items, bought online from the US, via Fedex, delivered within 48 hours from shipment. This was delivered as "hand-to-hand"! I'm sure RAM, DHL and others would offer similar services.
Do not ever use SA postal service! It is simply crap [-X :(

I know someone who waited almost four months for a parcel to arrive but that was back in 2014 when the Post Office had that strike that lasted a couple of months.
Fortunately the item was not damaged.

The only technical issue I have experienced with the Post Office was when I purchased a book from a company in Durban a few years ago. The book travelled all the way up to Gauteng,
then turned around and went back to Durban and then back up to Gauteng but I did receive the book in the end.

Stratobat
