Is enlisting for the 2-year MSDS in the Military Health Service a viable way for a matriculant to start a career as a professional paramedic? Do you get a nationally recognised qualification.

A friend's son who went through it says one emerges with a nationally recognised qualification.
He points out however, that due to demand for the limited slots, there's unofficial pressure to sign on for additional study to improve chances to get in, just so the SAMHS can keep people in the system longer.
