Scalecraft used to produce resin kits, for freight wagons and passenger coaches as well as some diesel locomotives
CMD used to produce plastic injection kits for freight wagons

Both for SAR/SAS

Most of the kits now a days are RTR only (Ready to run).

You can always look at the following pages and see what they ave with regards to trains

Dreamtrains http://www.dreamtrains.co.za/
Craigs http://www.craigsmodels.co.za/ Got a lot of laser cut buildings
Model railroad specialists http://www.modelrailroad.co.za/
Model trains shop http://wp.modeltrainshop.co.za/
Model train exchange http://mte.co.za/

These are the shops I frequent most. Very useful if you are looking for scenic material or other hobby supplies as well.

The one that sells the Trumpeter/Hobby Boss kits. I walked all over Oriental City. Not 1 kit to be found.

The one in Bruma has moved to the new multi-story building across the road from the old one - to the east. The shop is on the south-west corridor from the central escalators (can't recall if ground or 1st floor). It's a toy shop. The models are at the back. You may pick up some bargains.

There's also one in Centurion at the China Mall just off the old-Jhb road.

Just be careful with the one in Centurion.

Check the kit before you buy it. What is on the box cover is not necessarily what is inside the box.

Was looking at an "Aircraft" kit and inside the box was armour.

A friend of mine had a similar experience, was look at a train locomotive kit, and inside was an aircraft.

Also had sprues missing from kits from this shop as not all the boxes are sealed

I will go this afternoon and report back on quantity/quality.

OK, the shop is on the 1st floor, called MHK Distributors. They dont have much, but a decent enough collection of Trumpeter and Hobby Boss, stretching from armour to modern fighter jets. All the kits are in excellent condition (look brand new). I picked up a Grumman F4F-3 Wildcat "late" from Trumpeter in 1/32 scale for R499. They sell at other places from R600 and up. It has photoetch included as well. Will deff go back there.

Glad you found it. It is a little gem of a shop. sometimes they have a lot of kits, sometimes not. The shop was bigger in the previous mall and there they had some Bandai kits as well
