I'm from Italy and I'm doing a job for the city of Rorà near Turin: they asked me to make some description boards (100x65 cm) to place along an ancient restored path.
One of the boards has to be placed near the crash site of the B-24 Liberator KH-154 of the 31st Squadron SAAF and tells about the night of the crash.
They gave me a picture of a RAF B-24 to place on the board as background for the text of the story, but I did some research and I found it was not the correct version for the SAAF so I looked for another picture depicting a real SAAF B-24 that I found.
Now I was thinking that, in addition to the picture of the memorial stone placed nearby, there is enough room on the board to place a profile of a 31st Squadron B-24 Liberator too.
As I expected I didn't find any picture of the KH154 plane but I found some profiles from Mr. Brent Best (that if I understand is a moderator on the forum) that could be used anyway.
So I was wondering first of all if someone did some artwork of the KH154 that I could use, and in second place if Mr. Best could give the permission to use one of his B24 profiles for the board in memory the KH154 crew.
Thank you very much for your help,

Roberto Lecchi

Hi Roberto

First of all, well done on trying to get an accurate representation for a SAAF aircraft, it is good to know that Italy still honours the sacrifices by the SAAF crew on that fateful night.

I will ask Brent to contact you.

What's going on in the pure white areas of the belly area below the wing?
It looks as if part of the belly skin is transparent.

Cheers Roger :smt023

The a/c had corrugated bomb doors, which were usually slightly rolled up when on the ground ...

Hi Kremlin and Dean,
I am back to your forume, I ve just retired from my University and hope will have more time for my volunteer projects for the Allied losses in Bulgaria during WWII. Five years ago you were very helpful with the info about losses of 31 SAAF sqdr.
Recently I met your post with the picture of SAAF Liberator VI with index “Y”. I wonder if it is the same plane EW104’Y’, fall down in Bulgaria on 29 June 1944 piloted by Lt.Haggie? If so may I use in my future publication about SAAF in Bulgaria during WWII.
Are there another picture of this plane and its crew, and for Liberator EV-970, Identification Code Letter “F” ?
Is it possible we to ask Mr.Brent Best to make a profile of the Liberator EV-970 F? Under what conditions? In the archives is marked, that crash site in Bulgaria of that plane is unknown. I think I have new info about that.
Best regards :smt023
