Found the Pentagon White paper I mention a post or 2 ago – it was from 2006 (how time flies when one is having fun,  ) ( http://www.defenselink.mil/pubs/pdfs/Ch ... 202006.pdf ) and it says, “China’s indigenous fourth-generation fighter, the F-10, completed development in 2004. DIA estimates production of 1,200 aircraft over the life of the program. Reported to be similar in weight and performance to the Eurofighter Typhoon or Dassault Rafale, newer variants of the F-10, the F-10A, and Super-10, now under development, feature improved weapons, engines, and radars.”

Skyhawk the reverse is actually true, the higher you fly the more SAM are likely to target/hit you.

The higher you are:
01) The greater the distance the radar picks you up at.
02) The longer the time period spent over the threat area.
03) Are visible to more SAM emplacements.
04) Are safe from AAA

The lower you are:
01) Are only visible at short range
02) Are over threat area for short time period
03) Are vunerable to AAA and Manpac depending on terrain

The American U2 spy plane was shot down on numerous occassions by SAMs and it flies at well over 70 000ft.

Here's a drawing(WIP) showing the J-10A and the new J-10B. Nice looking aircraft! Well, I think so anyway. :)

ROTFLMAO!

When a SAM bites you in the tailpipe (hot and full of highly reflective turbine blades) which you have so conveniently pointed at the SAM sites in your effort to climb through 50k, you will learn (too late) the meaning of fear.

Thanks Wolfman! :D

I use photoshop. I know there are better programs out there, but I feel comfortable using PS. :)

Please bare in mind that the JF-17 and J-10 are a work in progress, and I made them just for fun, and especially for this forum. For both the JF-17 and J-10 I've used avaliable three views found on the net as base. But they are modified/corrected using photos of the real aircraft. Alot of work yet remain but their present state are good enough for a comparison.

Here's a three view showing the JAS39C, the JF-17 and the J-10. :)

Edited: J-10 corrected in size.

Hi guys
All said, you have to admit that this J10 is one really mean mother. I have to say that I think it is even better looking than the Gripen. It is simply amazing to see how closely it resembles the "Carver"-project's single engine concept. I think if that project went ahead it would have come out very much the same as the J10.
Let's face it, the range and T/W of the J10 is much better than the Gripen’s. Especially the range! If the J10 had the Gripen avionics, radar and diagnostics, it would have been the ultimate single engine fighter!!!

I have to agree with you Boertjie, it is a very good looking plane, but better than the Gripen, mmmm I surpose beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

True, but the Gripen was designed to operate from road strips that an heavier aircraft would have a few problems with, thus the need for a small light fighter was required where the J-10 is much heavier and larger.

The T/W and range have been sorted out in the Gripen NG including more advanced avionics, but that would be a different topic all together.

the ability of the gripen to take off on roads and very short strips is a huge advantage over the j-10. the j-10 being heavier means a it can carry heavier armament than the gripen. "who sees who first" the j-10 sees the gripen first and locks it before the gripen does

all along i thought the j-10 s radar is far more superior - 200km/70degrees- gripen-150km/"60"
