The Silver Falcons are made up of existing instructor pilots of the Central Flying School, AFB Langebaanweg.
When a slot opens up, existing instructors of the CFS will partake in a 'fly-off,' thereafter the successful candidate(s) will be chosen. Often, the chosen person will then accompany the team as a ground crew liaison or safety officer, getting to know the team and how they work. Only after many, many hours of practice will they be integrated into the team, but they still have to continue their full-time occupation as an instructor pilot at CFS.
When an existing team member is transferred to a new posting, another fly-off is held.
Thus, to be a Silver Falcon team member, you must be a serving SAAF instructor pilot at the CFS.
